Us Brits love their pets, it’s a fact. British people are known around the world as being a nation of pet lovers. More than half of all Brits have at least one pet with golf fish, cats and dogs being the most popular. So it’s not surprising to learn that pet cemeteries and pet memorials are becoming more popular across Britain. More and more of us pet owners are choosing to give their pets a more formal send off and you can even be buried alongside your beloved pet in some places.
Losing a beloved pet is painful and the sorrow is tough to bare. Pets are part of the family and losing one can be just as painful as losing a relative. Only pet lovers would truly understand the hole they leave when they die. They say a dog is a man’s best friend and that is so very true. Dogs are so loyal and give unconditional love and affection all the time and to suddenly lose that is tough to deal with. Many dog owners are unaware of the physical and mental health benefits that come with the pleasure and devotion of owning a pet. It is only recently that studies have begun to scientifically explore and prove the benefits of snuggling up to a furry friend. Studies have found that pet owners are less likely to suffer from depression, will have lower blood pressure, have higher levels of serotonin and dopamine which calm and relax. The companionship of a pet can also ease loneliness which is another reason why it’s such a major event and shock to the system when a beloved pet dies.
Making a special memorial for pets can offer a little comfort. Our team are getting more requests to have pets names mentioned on memorials lately and we are always happy to oblige. We think mentioning a pet on a memorial makes it even more personal and unique. Below is an image of the most recent bench we made which gives a mention to a pet.
Our master woodcarver uses traditional chisels and he is able to carve beautiful images of animals. See the rabbit carving below. We also offer solid brass or stainless steel plaques with your chosen wording if you prefer.
